Newt's Out- Blames it on McCain

Newt announced today on FOX News Channel that he won't run for President.   ( No Sherman oath, though.   Is a draft possible??)    he also would not consider being a VP.  I am very disappointed.  He has been, and still is , one of my personal heroes.  He truly has the best interests of the country at heart in everything he does.   He has a foundation (non-partisan, for some reason)  which functions as a think tank and marketplace of ideas.   He said he will stall comment on the race on FOX News,  which is not enough IMHO.

What's interesting is that  he blamed McCain-Feingold for his decision.   He  called it "The McCain-Feingold Censorship Act".   That's a more appropriate name for the act.   There is a part of the act which says a non-partisan organization,  such as Newt's foundation, couldn't be affiliated with Newt if he ran.   Newt would have to step down.   Newt decided his foundation was more important.  Newt took several swipes at the act.   All of which were justified.   He said it hurts the poor and middle-class who may wish to donate to campaigns.  It limits their donations.  The rich however , can write personal checks to fund their campaigns.  (He took a shot at Mitt Romney, saying Mitt can write a personal check for $100 million for his campaign.)

I really looked forward to Newt running.   He could really wipe the floor with Hillary.

Hillary Gets an MSM Photo "Endorsement"

Sometimes the MSM lets their bias shine through their photos.  They subliminally tell people what to think about people.  Remember the Cheney photo with the word "Retire" in the background?   There was a large banner behind Cheney,  and the MSM cropped the photo to give the subliminal message.       Now Hillary has been given the subliminal photo treatment:

Liveblogging from Mackinac GOP Leadership Conference

I am here at the Mackinac Island Republican Leadership Conference, where all 10 candidates (including Newt)are making appearances .   I have met Dick Morris and Gov. Romney so far.

I am here running the "Think Condi " booth.   I have been promoting our Plan B strategy:   advocating Condi for Vice-President.   I am getting lots of support and great reactions,  especially from Mitt supporters.  The booths are in the same hall as the straw poll.  Only Michigan Republicans can vote in the straw poll.   The voters were lined up around the booths.  Mitt supporters also lined up along the voters line handing out stickers and the famous foam mitts.

The Ron Paul crowd is here.  They have a large booth where they play Ron Paul speeches (very loudly) .   It reminds me of brainwashing techniques.  They are also campaigning on Main Street here on the island.  I overheard one supporter say that Iraq was an unconstitutional war and how the New World Order is creating one America.   (I' m guessing he means the entire continent will become one country.)  he also discussed the great money conspiracy.   The new currency will be called "The America".   He was speaking with tourists,  not with conference attendees.   I really sympathize with those tourists.    Rudy Giuliani was coming up to the Grand Hotel in a carriage when a Paul supporter said to a fellow Paul supporter,  "I should have yelled at him "9/11 was an inside job!"

In other news, I met Gov. Romney whiel riding on the ferry this morning.   I was fortunate enough to shake his hand and have my picture taken with him.  I also handed him one of our "Think Condi" information postcards.  I told him,  "It's not too early to think about a running mate."     Last night,  I met Ward Connerly,  one of my personal heroes.     I also met Dick Morris.  He signed my "Condi vs. Hillary" book.  I told him of the new plan to promote Condi as VP and he said it was a possibility.

Holly Hughes campaign supporters are here.  She is running for Republiucan National Committeewoman.  They are handing out these Hershey bars with her name on the wrapper in the Hershey logo.  This is the best handout that I have seen so far.

Bush wants Socialized Health Care????

According to the Secretary of Health and Human Services,  Bush wants universal health coverage before the end of his presidency .  (What??!!   What??!!!)   You will notice that this quote is embedded in an article about Hillary's new health care plan.   Some may interpret this as Bush agreeing with  ( or endorsing?) Hillary.   That may have been the purpose of the author of the article.   I'm not quite ready to panic yet,  since Bush himself was not quoted on the topic.

Bush has done some incredibly stupid things in the spirit of getting along with the Dems,  but this takes the cake.  He appointed a wimpy attorney general recently,  which was well received by the Dems.   He also hasn't called for enforcement of immigration laws .

Hillary's plan may seem more palatable this time around,  since some may keep coverage they already have and she "promises " no new bureaucracy. (LOL)   It is still government-run health care which we all know only reduces the quality of care and treatment.   Most Republicans,  including the leading Presidential candidates , have it right.  Their view:  no socialized medicine.      If Hill keeps touting this,  the GOP could ride this issue straight into the White House.

Condoleezza Supporters: Next Stop, Mackinac Island!

September 21-23 (next Friday and Saturday),  "Think Condi",  the 527 group supporting Condoleezza Rice for President,  will be at the Mackinac Island Republican Conference.    All of the Republican Presidential candidates will be there.      They have them divided up so that a couple will be speaking at each meal.  Check out the schedule on the website.  Registration is only $100,  a good deal to meet (or come close to meeting) GOP celebrities.

We will have our booth at the convention.   We will be selling our "I Like Condi" buttons and "Think Condi" t-shirts.   If anyone would like to help us out at the conference,  send me an e-mail.

It's not too late for Condi to jump in the race,  but petitions in many states are circulating NOW.

Think empowerment.  Think Condi.

Condoleezza Writes About Campaigning!

Condoleezza Rice has co-wrote a new book on campaiging!  Specifically about Reagan and Yeltsin's political campaigns.  It describes how both men faced political defeats and rose up stronger than ever.
From Newsmax.com:

Condi Authors New Book on Campaigning

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is the co-author of a new book about politics, “The Strategy of Campaigning: Lessons from Ronald Reagan and Boris Yeltsin.”

The book explores the political careers of Reagan and Yeltsin, “two of the most galvanizing and often controversial political figures of our time,” according to its publisher, The University of Michigan Press.

“Both men overcame defeat early in their political careers and rose to the highest elected offices in their respective countries.”

Former Secretary of State George Schultz writes in the book’s Foreword: “What makes the book important is the ability of the authors to relate this rich factual material to ideas about strategy — ideas from which future campaigners can benefit.”

Rice’s co-authors are Kiron Skinner, an associate professor of history and political science at Carnegie Mellon University; Serhiy Kudelia, an adjunct lecturer and Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins University; and Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, Julius Silver Professor in the Wilf Family Department of Politics at New York University.

It looks a lot like a college textbook.  If Condoleezza knows a lot about campaigning,  maybe she should try it herself!   I just hate it when she teases us like this!   Condi,  the time to jump in the race is now!

Larry Craig , It's OK to be Gay

I have been following the Larry Craig mess.     It's not bad enough that he gets arrested soliciting in a men's room.  He pled guilty,  resigned, and now he may not even be resigning.   it sounds to me like he is hedging his bets.  He is asking, "What can I get away with?"   "Have I spent all of my political capital?"   "Can I still stay in office?"   "Will this blow over?" (pardon the pun.)

This kind of calculating tells me he is not in the Senate for the benefit of the good people of Idaho or for the benefit of  promoting Republican ideas.   He is in the Senate for himself.  This is unacceptable.  Bill Frist said it best,  being in Congress too long can corrupt people.

Having to pry Craig's fingers off of the curtains in his Senate office will only hurt the Republican party.  Craig should bow out gracefully,  like he was beginning to do.   He shouldn't be such a drama queen and make us force him out.   This is making the party look bad at a vulnerable time.   The party needs to be strong now to promote strong national security.

There is another point I want to make.   If Sen. Craig is gay, he needs to know that it's not wrong.      (Here is a Casey Kasem long distance dedication from me to him.)  I have admired Sen. Craig's tenacity and loyalty to the GOP in the past.   But getting married and having kids while gay is an awful way to live.   If Sen. Craig were openly gay,  i wouldn't admire him any less.   If he were out,  he wouldn't have to hide in public restrooms.   He could live a normal and much happier  life

I want to ask the Townhall readers:  would you accept a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, conservative Republican congressman who was openly gay??   Under what circumstances?  How should such a person address questions about their sexual orientation??   There are lots of conservative gays , despite what Andrew Sullivan may say.    Tell me what ou think in the "Comments" section.

Midwest Regional Republican Convention: Report

I was at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference last weekend in Indianapolis.  I was there with "Think Condi"   [ http://www.thinkcondi.net] [ Once again, Hyperlinks aren't working.]  the Draft Condoleezza Rice for President campaign.    There weren't too many booths there, but a great time was had by all.  I worked at our booth most of the time.  our famous "I Like Condi" buttons were selling like hotcakes.  Many people told me that they weren't satisfied with the current pool of GOP candidates.  They thought Condi would make a great president.   They were also thrilled to hear that South Carolina would put her on the primary ballot  if we could raise enough money for the entry fee.  (See my post "The $35,000 Challenge".   )

I was interviewed by the local FOX station.   I explained why Condi was needed  to help beat Hillary in 2008 as well as to continue the War on Terrorism.   They were really interested in what we had to say.  They wired me with a microphone at the booth.  People kept buying stuff while I was in front of the camera.   I ended up taking money and talking at the same time.   It was a lot of fun.   We were also featured in a Human Events article by John Gizzi [http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=22098&keywords=Dueker].   He really complimented us for being so vigilant and tenacious.  He also said Condoleezza Rice will be featured in a "Candidates Guide" by Human Events,  thanks to our efforts.   It just shows that every little bit helps.

Fred Thompson stopped by the conference,  literally.   There was a fundraising reception for him at the ballroom right next to our booth.  He walked past our booth with only a couple of handlers.  That was a bit of a surprise.   As a Presidential candidate,  I'd think he'd have bodyguards,  big guys in sunglasses and earpieces,  or at least one person with a pistol.   He stayed at the reception for about 5 minutes and left.  It was long enough to give a short speech.   I really wish he'd announce.  He was supposed to announce July 4th,  then August.  The latest news is this weekend in Nashville OR October.

We can't wait for folks to offer their candidacy to us.  We need to offer the candidacy to someone we want to be President.    Do your part by donating to our $35,000 Challenge fund. [ http://www.thinkcondi.net ] .

Think Empowerment,  Think Condi.

"Draft Condi" update

Our website is back up,  new and improved:  http://www.thinkcondi.net.   Go there to donate money for our South Carolina $35,000 challenge.  We were  challenged by some people in the SC GOP to raise money for the Presidential primary entry fee.   If we raise $35,000 by Halloween,   they will put Condoleezza Rice on the primary ballot.

We will be at The Midwest Republican Leadership Conference this weekend  :  http://www.midwestrepublicans.org/    We will be selling t-shirts and our famous "I Like Condi" buttons.

If you're not satisfied by the current crop of candidates,  send them a message by giving to "Think Condi"  .   If you think Condi may be a nice running mate for your favorite candidate,   you may also feel free to give.   If we keep her name in the GOP public eye,   more folks will consider her .

McCain praises Hillary: An Act of Desperation

Now that McCain's ship is sinking,  he has resorted to "Plan B".   He was interviewed by Bob Schieffer and was asked about Hillary.   He praised her.  See the vid here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG4n_1JNkI8

This makes me wonder,  Is he trying to vie for a running-mate position on her ticket?   He considered that before with Kerry:   switching parties at the last minute in order to be a Dem's running mate.  He could also run as a GOP on her ticket .  Then there would be a "bi-partisan unity" ticket.  (But McCain is a RINO of course,  so in actuality it'd be a liberal ticket.

McCain is showing his fear and desperation.

How sad.

Arellano Deported (Finally!)

Elvira Arellano , an illegal alien who had been hiding in a church in Chicago for over a year, has finally been arrested and deported.  (The link function on the blog is not working today,  so find the story here:  http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8R4OQQ80&show_article=1)  It happened in LA,  while she was on her speaking tour among LA churches.   She left behind her 8 year old anchor,  son, who is now staying with the family of the pastor of the "sanctuary church".

Well Chertoff finally decided to do his job.  Good for him.

What amazes me about this case is why she wasn't deported sooner.  (I know,  immigration laws are never enforced,  especially in Chicago.)   She has been here for 10 years (!!!)   She entered the country through the state of Washington .   It's interesting that she chose the northern border.  The southern border gets the most media attention.   It also amazes me that she wasn't arrested while in the church.   I am a law school graduate.  I don't remember any laws granting sanctuary in churches for criminals.  (I could have been asleep in Criminal Law class on that day, though.)  I do remember in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" that sanctuary was granted for criminals, though.

Illegal aliens and their activist friends are howling over this already.  I heard on the 10 o'clock news one immigrant comparing her to Rosa Parks.  That should raise some eyebrows in the African-American community  .   I know they get ticked off when the gay community compares their struggle to the Civil Rights era.   (After all, according to the black leadership,  being gay is a choice, immoral, and gays are doomed.)     They should be angry at this comparison by the illegal community.   Illegal aliens are breaking the law,  taking jobs, and receiving entitlements.   Afrtican-Americans deserved to be treated equally under the law.  They were American citizens.  The Civil Rights eras struggle cannot be compared to those who are in this country illegally.

I really hope illegal immigration enforcement increases.  We need to secure our borders.

As for Ms. Arellano,  don't worry about her.  She has a bright future ahead of her.  She can look forward to receiving honorary doctorates,  speaking engagements,  keys to many cities around th world, and even a Nobel Peace Prize or two.

Illinois Straw Poll Tomorrow: READ THIS!

The Illinois Straw Poll is tomorrow at the Illinois State Fair.   Voting is free, and some candidates are even stuffing the ballot boxes providing free transportation from other cities for people to vote .  (This is how Frist won the poll at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference last year.  He bussed in students from the Univ. of Tennessee to vote for him.  He gave them a free weekend in Memphis and free registrations to the convention.    As they were getting off the bus,  Frist folks were putting delegate badges around their necks.)

Anyway,  only declared candidates will be listed on the ballot,  according to the IL GOP Chicago office.  ( I guess Fred will be on there too. )   This means Condoleezza Rice won't be on the ballot.

If there is a  blank space to write in your candidate,  write in Condoleezza Rice.

She definitely wants to be President.  She won't run unless she sees support from the people.   She has left a window open for us supporters of her candidacy.  She has declined  to take "The Sherman Oath" ("If drafted I will not run.  If elected I will not serve.")  She has dodged questions about whether us "Condistas" should stop our movement.  (Our current website of support "Think Condi" is down right now .  It is getting more links and a message board added to it.  )

Her positions:

She supports parental notification .
She opposes partial birth abortion
She opposes federal funding of abortions.

She is a Second Amendment absolutist.  She received a "2nd Amendment Defender of the Month"  award from the Citizens to Keep and Bear Arms.

We know she will continue to fight the War on Terror,  and she can do so without any "on the job" training required.

The Draft Condi movement is currently raising money to put her on the South Carolina Primary ballot.  The South Carolina GOP is allowing us to put her on the ballot if we raise enough money for the entry fee,  $35,000.
We will be at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference next weekend with more details about the nationwide state-by-state strategy.  (Which states we are targeting.)

Scroll down this blog for more info about the movement and poll results.  She was finishing in the top 3 when her name was listed on polls in 2005 and 2006.

Tomorrow when you vote,  don't just pick someone because you think you have to.  Think for yourself.  Think Condi.

Hillary vs. the GOP : WAKE UP EVERYBODY!!!!!!!

The Associated Press published an article about Hillary asking "Will Hillary Save the GOP?".  It described the sentiment of many GOP operatives.  The conventional wisdom is that when Hillary wins the Dem nomination for President,  and she will,   everyone will come out in droves to vote for the GOP candidate.

My response?   WAKE UP GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This kind of thinking has resulted in the GOP sitting back and not really being enthusiastic about supporting a GOP candidate.   This is why conservatives  yawn at the recent GOP debates.   They figure we have 2008 in the bag.  Everyone hates Hillary,  so it doesn't matter who our candidate is. (Kinda reminds me of the old "Tortoise and the Hare" fable.)

If there is one thing I have learned about the Clintons in my 14 years of reading books about Clinton scandals and corruption,  it's that they are ruthless.   (By the way,  buy your anti-Clinton books here.)   Hillary knows all about her tarnished reputation among the masses.  Do you really think she isn't plotting ways to get around that and bounce back?????    Dick Morris wrote that she has been collecting favors from every important Democratic leader.  When the time comes,  they will be supporting her.    The masses who may not listen to Hillary may listen to a different person they do respect speaking on her behalf.

As for her cold demeanor,  all she needs is one interview with the perky one Katie Couric.  If Hillary cries during the interview,  she takes care of humanizing herself.   What will she cry about?   Bill's affairs?  9/11?  Wal-mart?   TCBY's new yogurt flavors?  It doesn't matter.  If housewives see her cry on TV,  they'll start baking cookies using her recipe.

I've predicted this before,   if Rudy or Fred is the GOP nominee, Hillary will make their cancer  a campaign issue.   Should an old man with cancer,  even if it's in remission,  be a strong leader of a country at war?    Hillary will make sure the public knows by mentioning it in a Presidential debate.   (Much like John Edwards swipe at Cheney in 2004 regarding his daughter.)

What we need to energize the GOP is a draft movement.    In the words of Dick Morris,  only Condi can beat Hillary.

Assassination Chic - The Power of 10

There is a new game show on CBS called "The Power of 10".  It's hosted by Drew Carey.  Drew asks contestants to guess poll results from questions the show asks the public.  Questions include hot topics like immigration, the war, feminism, etc.   Drew asks "What percentage of Americans answered" a certain way to these questions.

The poll questions are interesting:  "What percentage of Americans said they'd report an illegal alien?"   ,  "What percentage of Americans feel they are living the American Dream?"   BUT   on Monday they went a little too far.

They had this question,  "What percentage of Americans felt they could shoot Dick Cheney if they were in a duel?"     Drew had to remind the audience of the vice-president's hunting accident.   I understand trying to making light of it, BUT  suggestions of assassinating our leaders go WAY too far.

There was another question,  which they promoted the heck out of in their commercials"What percentage of Americans think they are smarter than George Bush?"   This clip was played so much in the commercials for the game show,   it should have just been the only question of the night.  Everyone would tune in just to hear that question, then the show could fade into obscurity.

Another facet of the show is Drew's soapbox.   After asking a question,  he gives his personal opinion,  always towing the liberal line.  After giving the question,  "What percentage of American women consider themselves feminists?",  he says that most women think of feminists as women who don't shave under their arms.  Then he said that it's really those women who fought for the rights that women have today,  so they should be appreciated.

I wonder why Drew gets on his soapbox?  He is going to host "The Price is Right",  so maybe he is trying to channel Rosie O' Donnell.

I stopped thinking Drew was funny when the show "Whose Line is it Anyway?"  aired.  It wasn't a game show.  It was just his buddies doing improv comedy,  badly.  The grand "prize" was getting to do an improv scene with him at the end of the show.

I predict that when Drew's career is over,  he will be seen at a farm in rural Ohio. He will be standing next to a cow laughing at his own jokes.

New York City- Banning the B-Word

Thought police are coming,  in the guise of the New York City council.   They want to ban use of the word "b*tch".  This is just one more step closer to liberal fascism.  They have banned trans-fats ,  except for Bloomberg's private parties.  Giuliani banned guns,  a fact which he still brags about.

I assume i don't have to tell anyone about the hazards of government paternalism,  but the question remains:

If the b word is banned,  what will happen to the 2007 Tony Award winner for "Best Musical" ??
